Thus far things seem to be going fairly well. My room is mostly set up, but still very disorganized. That's to be expected though I suppose. If I look directly out my window I see a grey building, but if I look out to either side, I can see the smaller mountains, and across the Inlet, Unless (like today) it is raining and grey and foggy. I found something out today that surprised me; because this Campus is situated up on a hill that is rather steep, it's prone to at least a couple of snow days a winter. I was like, WTF?? -40, the car wont' start, a foot of snow and fog so dense you can't see the car in front of you and STILL MAKE IT TO SCHOOL. But here, if the buses can't make it up the hill, then it's game over, go home. Which kind of makes sense because a majority of people rely on buses to get to class, but still, it seems kind of, well, pansy-ish

Today I went on a tour of half the Campus (the other half comes tomorrow) went to a few workshops on academic and social life, the usual university things.  This morning at the kick of, we had a 2000 person Conga Line going, and it appears that the mascot is a dog, presumably a Scottish Terrier? in a Kilt and hat.  My Orientation Clan is made up of the film students/prospectives.  The evenings are more or less socializing with the Residence people in an attempt to get all chummy with everyone.  People here seem nice thus far, so It's not a big deal.  I have yet to meet anyone that makes me think ZOMG... you are amazing.  Which isn't a bad thing either.

Wireless does not exist in the res building.  I think it's got something to do with the walls of concrete.  LAN does work, but it's a bit slow and patchy.  Since last night, it's gotten a bit better though. 


Oh, and last night I put my water in my fridge and this morning, it was frozen solid.  Way to turn the cold on FULL.  I turned it back.  Life was good.

I have a New Cell Number.  OH YEAH CELL PLAN STORY!!!

Right, well I switched over to Bell which Sask Tel works in Conjunction with.  I was able to get Free Evenings and Weekends, 250 Day Time Minutes, Unlimited Text, Free Voice Mail and Caller ID, and 10-4 for about the same price as I was paying before.  BUT THE BEST PART IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If I am back in PA, and I am making a call to the PA area, no long distance fee!  If I am Saskatoon calling a local Stoon number, NO LONG DISANCE!!!  So, anywhere in Canada as long as I am making a call that is local to that area, THERE IS NO LONG DISTANCE CHARGE!!!!!!!  Seriously, how wonderful is that?  So I can keep on this contract for long time!! Oh, and the girl I was dealing with wrote off the cost of my phone, so I got a $50 phone.(with contract).. for free!!   It's just like my old one only more durable (good!) and a few models up.  So YAY DANCE!!

All that aside, I miss you people.  It's a little lonely out here knowing that you aren't around.  *sigh* I'm hoping that things will feel a little better when I start class.

Oh thank God I found a place! And it's awesome!. They had a room open up in the St. Andrew's College residence and against all expectation I slipped in on short notice! It's not very expensive at all, really (I &hearts religious people~) and it is going to be great.

It looks like the kind of situation that I could actually make new friends in. There's nineteen people staying there all year, sharing a common area and a kitchen. Each of the rooms is a single room, and I AM ACTUALLY ALLOWED TO HAVE PEOPLE STAY OVERNIGHT FOR THREE DAYS IN A ROW SO IF ANYONE WANTS TO COME FOR A WEEKEND, YOU CAN!

St. Andrew's is a college run by my church- the United Church of Canada. Soooo... well, let's just say that he minister who baptized me actually has an office on the first floor! He is the nicest guy ever and acted as a reference even though he moved years and years ago.

This all worked out and you have no idea how relieved I am. ...Mom refuses to let me take the tiny 14 inch TV from home to play video games on, so it looks like I'll have to expose my dorky RPG gamer side to everyone there. Oh welllll; maybe there'll be another dork there who I can play games with in our free time. Hee! xD

They were even willing to bend all sorts of rules to let me in. I was supposed to get two references to fill in this stupid large sheet, but two sentences from Rev. (Dr? Prof? I need to ask what he is, now.) Schweitzer was apparently sufficient proof that I won't have drunken orgies often. And I was supposed to give proof that I have a meal plan with the university (which I don't have yet, although I will get one!), but they let that slide, too. I'm moving in on Friday, although I'll technically be paying for both this apartment and my residence room for all of September.

I may even end up attending Sunday service, because the united church is pretty much the grooviest thing ever.

So far the material is starting off pretty basic, but everyone but Jason, Mason and myself need to know that stuff anyway. So if I get some easy stuff to start off on, eh. I guess I'll live with it eh?

But probably the coolest thing, is that we are more or less allowed to download anything we like onto the computers. Just that if we break it, we fix it (that part made me happy). I made a beeline for firefox. Can't think of anything else really. Maybe Open Office if M$ Office starts pissing me off. There are also four other computer stations set up away from the main group, for the express purpose of fucking around on.

Aaaaand from the looks of it, I'll get to challenge my A+ before Christmas.
